The man who became a part of the history of the sanatorium "Magadan"
There are guests in the life of every sanatorium, and there are real friends. People whose visits you look forward to, whose words warm you up, and the meeting itself becomes an event. For us, in the sanatorium "Magadan", he became such a friend for many years.Nikolai Ivanovich Ponomarev.
Why did we want to tell you about him right now?
The year 2027 will be special for us. The sanatorium "Magadan" will celebrate its 80th anniversary. In the same year, Nikolai Ivanovich will step over his century–old milestone – 100 years. And another round date is 20 years of friendship between the sanatorium and Nikolai Ivanovich. After all, it was 20 years ago that he came to us for the first time and left a piece of his big heart here.
Three significant events side by side – isn't this a reason to remember the amazing story of a long-term friendship?
How it all started
Nikolai Ivanovich first came to our sanatorium almost 20 years ago from Kaluga. Since that day, a special relationship has been established between the guest and the sanatorium. He didn't just come on vacation. Each of his visits is a lesson in joie de vivre, resilience and generosity of the soul. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, a man who has a whole era behind him. At the same time, he is an extremely bright, friendly and lively conversationalist.
After the war, he worked for a long time at the legendary Riga VEF factory, at the same time graduated from the Latvian State University with a degree in literary criticism and even played in the factory theater.
Then he went to sea for 25 years as a first mate on tankers and bulk carriers. He became interested in sports and yoga while swimming – he translated the book from English himself and since then he has been doing an hour's exercise and walking every day, keeping his spirits up and in great shape.
Nikolai Ivanovich traveled all over the world. He has visited 26 countries, visited Paris, London, Antwerp, Belgrade, and crossed the equator more than once. But despite everything I've seen, I'm sure there's no country better than Russia.
A friend who became a part of history
Over the years, Nikolai Ivanovich has observed how our sanatorium is changing. And we always received from him not just approval, but wise, warm words that helped us to become better.
He became an integral part of the history of Magadan. When a person is almost 100 years old, every day is a feat. And if at the same time he retains a kind smile and an interest in life, this is an example for all of us.
Nikolai Ivanovich, we are waiting for you very much. And we are already preparing to celebrate our common anniversary the way you deserve it.
See you in 2027!
